Welcome to Connected. Our newsletter is designed to keep you informed about our expanding serial communication solutions for the Industrial and Embedded PC market, including CompactPCI, PC/104, PC/104-Plus, PCI, and ISA bus compatible boards, and external Ethernet-to-serial and USB-to-serial devices. Your feedback is always welcome!

Ethernet-to-serial Blue Heat/Net now offers more options for networking serial devices

Connect Tech has added new features to its Ethernet-to-serial device, the Blue Heat/Net, making it even more versatile by adding another communications protocol and more operating system support.

Now included within the serial settings is the ability to choose the "personality" or function of an individual port. This includes the option to configure ports to behave as a PPP server and client (Point-to-Point Protocol) so you can transfer data via point-to-point links.

Connect Tech has also added support for the Linux operating system, in addition to the Windows support currently available.

Another feature of the Blue Heat/Net is the availability of the Software Development Kit, which enables you to create customized protocols and download them directly to the on-board Flash memory. Based on a uClinux embedded operating system, the Blue Heat/Net offers programmers a familiar Linux API. You can completely reprogram the Blue Heat/Net if so desired, to perform very specific communications based on your particular application needs. The SDK is available at no extra cost, making the Blue Heat/Net great value for your dollar.

The Blue Heat/Net includes an auto-sensing 10Base-T, 100Base-TX LAN interface, and can achieve data speeds up to 460.8 Kbps per port. Each port is independently configurable. Currently available in four and eight ports to network any RS-232/422/485 serial device, a two-port model is coming soon.

The Blue Heat/Net is the easiest way to simplify serial device installation and control. Reduce cabling requirements, remotely monitor any of your devices from anywhere on your LAN (Local Area Network) or WAN (Wide Area Network) and place virtual COM ports wherever you need them.

The Blue Heat/Net is backed by a lifetime warranty.
