 In today’s
global village, the successful management of communications is
as important as the means of communication.
Belgium-based communications company BarcoNet set out to
expand the solutions available for multimedia distribution by
designing products offering both flexibility and intelligence.
This was the driving force behind the design of the aptly
named Copernicus Element Manager.
The modular Element Manager works in concert with BarcoNet’s
ROSA network management software
to provide a flexible, comprehensive system to manage CATV,
MMDS or broadcast stations.
In order to satisfy a diverse range of customers, the
components of the Copernicus need to enhance, not limit, the
adaptability of the product. By providing flexible interfaces
for modules, Connect Tech provided the reliable link between
the Copernicus and diverse equipment options, such as
modulators, demodulators and channel converters.
Initially BarcoNet used Connect Tech’s ultra-flexible
DFlex adapter,
chosen for its Serial Line Interface Modules which allow a
variety of interfaces to reside on the same board.
Connect
Tech’s software support was another deciding factor. “We were
very interested in the DFlex because it was easy to integrate
into the Windows NT platform we were using,” explained
BarcoNet Development Engineer Johan Vandendriessche. “We
didn’t have to write any drivers. This was very important to
us.”
When it was time to upgrade the Copernicus, BarcoNet again
turned to Connect Tech, this time utilizing the
Blue Heat/PCI
technology. Based on the reliability of the DFlex product,
Johan said Connect Tech was the obvious choice. When they had
problems integrating the 8-port Blue Heat, Connect Tech worked
to reconfigure the driver to their specifications. Johan adds
“there was great cooperation” from Connect Tech’s technical
support team to get things up and running. Quality product and
quality support set Connect Tech apart from the rest.
