Communiteq Systems and Connect Tech – A Success Story

An army of laconic ATMs dutifully dispensing cash and account balances may be perfect for financial institutions, but what if you want to offer your customers something more? Communiteq Systems Inc. (CSI) has designed the answer. Teaming with manufacturer Northrop Grumman Canada, the Ontario, Canada-based company has created the next generation of cash machine. Make no mistake; this is not your father’s ATM.

A bank machine, point-of-sale and kiosk hybrid, the electronic Transaction Machine (eTM) as it’s called, is a cash dispenser with custom POS applications and web-enabled operations. Users can purchase services or goods from any number of merchants, print on-demand coupons, view time-specific ads with video and audio, and perform a variety of customized transactions. In an apartment complex lobby for instance, a tenant could potentially pay rent, book the party room and inform the superintendent of any maintenance requirements. Oh --- and withdraw money, too.

CSI develops and controls all of the eTM software, enabling full customization. Depending on the requirements and location, the end result can include serial printers, LCD displays or other peripherals. Connect Tech Inc. plays a role in the successful operation and integration of these components. CSI depends on Connect Tech’s Blue Heat/PCI four- and eight-port serial boards to facilitate features such as card readers, secure pin encryption devices, receipt printers, cash dispensers, touch screens and UPS power failure alerts.

A proven reliability record is what sold CSI President John Chambers on the Blue Heat adapters for this exciting design. “I’ve been familiar with Connect Tech’s products for over 10 years, having used (their) early multi-port products,” he explained. “I’ve never had a failure in the products, and have used them in high-intensity mission critical applications.”

Mr. Chambers knew he could incorporate a Connect Tech product into the eTM’s design (the first of its kind in Canada) and not worry about whether the adapter would do its job. The Blue Heat/PCI didn’t disappoint. “The Blue Heat works as expected, i.e. it just works. I don’t have to think about it,” he said.

Instead, he can concentrate on the deployment of about 350 eTMs over the next eight months. They will join the close to 100 eTMs already on the market.
