There
are few careers that don't benefit from on-the-job training
programs. When you're a soldier preparing for the battlefield,
however, comprehensive training becomes especially
significant. In a potential life-or-death scenario, it's
imperative to be well-prepared.
With this in mind, Florida-based ECC International Corp.
designs and develops the next best thing to being there:
simulators and related training for the U.S. Department of
Defense and 25 other countries.
Connect Tech recently allied with ECC to provide multi-port
serial adapters for the Engagement Skills Trainer (EST 2000).
The simulated training system is an effective addition to
traditional training methods, designed to ensure that the
necessary skills are firmly ingrained before a soldier engages
in combat.
Connect Tech's
Blue Heat/PCI board
provides the rugged means of relaying data between the
operator station PC and the weapons box. The system comprises
an operator station, projector, detection system, air
compressor, screen, and cabling to connect to lane position
weapon boxes. The successful and reliable integration of these
components is crucial to the EST 2000's operations.
Jeff Gibson, Lead Engineer on the EST 2000 project, says part
of the challenge of producing the EST was the frustration of
working with a volatile marketplace, as products initially
integrated into the design became obsolete within the year the
project was in development. Connect Tech proved the exception.
Configuration control is an important component of Connect
Tech's design methodology, viewed as a necessary tool to
provide successful partnerships with companies like ECC.
Because of this strictly controlled process, Connect Tech can
guarantee support throughout the entire lifespan of the EST
2000, a fact appreciated by engineers like Mr. Gibson.
"It's not just an average-class product," Mr. Gibson
says of the decision to use Connect Tech's connectivity
solution. "Customer support is definitely what sets
Connect Tech apart."
More than 1,100 EST 2000 systems are scheduled for delivery to
units throughout the U.S., Europe and Korea.
Founded in 1985, Connect Tech Inc. is a leading manufacturer
of standard and intelligent multi-port serial adapters.
