SocketCAN and can4linux device drivers for its CAN
Controller Cards.
GUELPH, ON – December 23, 2008
Connect Tech Inc., designer/manufacturer of communications
solutions in the embedded and industrial PC markets for the
last 23 years today announced the release of two new Linux
drivers for its CAN controller product family.
Connect Tech now offers SocketCAN and can4linux device
driver support for its
CANpro/104 product family. They are
multiprocessor compatible and support shared interrupts for
ISA and PC/104 architectures.
The drivers for various CAN devices create network
interfaces that can be used similar to writing software to
access TCP/IP.
SocketCAN provides an API for CAN devices based on BSD
sockets.
The SocketCAN concept uses the model of network devices
allowing multiple applications to access one CAN device
simultaneously. Similarly, single applications are able to
access multiple CAN networks in parallel. This diversity
provides users with maximum flexibility for their
applications.
Comparatively, Connect Tech’s can4linux driver is based on
character devices providing interfaces similar to that of
serial ports. The driver can be used as a building block to
support higher level CANbus protocols such as CANopen or
used on its own.

high input impendence transceivers to maximize nodes on the
bus and jumperable slew rate limiting to help reduce
radiated emissions.
CANpro/104 Opto also features 500V of
optical and power isolation for maximum data protection in
harsh environments.
