Connect Tech Greatly Improves Features of the DFlex-4/104

Connect Tech Inc. of Guelph, Ontario, a leading designer and manufacturer of PC-based communications hardware and software, announces improved features on its existing PC/104 serial adapter, the DFlex-4/104. The DFlex-4/104 allows multiple serial devices such as printers, terminals, modems, POS terminals, barcode readers, scientific instrumentation, and other serial driven devices, to be connected to an embedded PC/104 compatible computer.

The DFlex-4/104 utilizes Connect Tech’s SLIM technology to provide different electrical interfaces such as RS-232, RS-422/485, RS-423 and 20mA Current Loop on the same board. As hardware requirements change, the user may field upgrade the board with the proper Serial Line Interface Module (SLIM). Since SLIMs are relatively inexpensive, the DFlex-4/104 provides a cost-effective solution to the user’s I/O needs.

The DFlex-4/104 offers the following features:

• Four RS-232 and/or RS-422/485 and/or 20mA Current Loop and/or RS-423 asynchronous communication ports. 
  

• Electrical interfaces on Serial Line Interface Modules (SLIM). SLIMs are field upgradeable allowing the user to configure the DFlex-4/104 with a combination of electrical interfaces. This feature also allows the user to change the combination of electrical interfaces at any time making the DFlex-4/104 the most flexible serial board on the market. 
  

• Ports controlled by a high performance quad XR16C654 UART which is backward compatible with standard 16450 and 16550 UARTs. 
  

• Data transfer speeds from 50 bps to 460.8 Kbps. 
  

• Jumper selectable IRQ lines. IRQ’s 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9/2, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15 are available. 
  

• Choice of using one, two, or four interrupts. 
  

• PC/104 compliancy. 
  

• Ability to house multiple boards in a computer to accommodate large systems. 
  

• Support by the most popular multi-user operating systems such as: QNX 2, QNX 4, Windows 95/98, Windows NT, DOS, Linux, Solaris and SCO UNIX.
  

• Standard 10 pin headers for serial I/O. 
  

• Fused +5v through 10-pin header to power external I/O. 
  

• Easy installation and a comprehensive manual. 
  

• SeePORT, a free full-featured data analyzer, for QNX 4 and Windows 95/98.
